Judge Mathis’ estranged wife Linda wants his support.
Linda Mathis filed for divorce from her husband of 39 years Gregory Mathis on Aug. 22, according to court documents obtained by E! News.
In the filing, Linda listed the date of the former couple’s separation as July 17, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split.
As for what the mother of four is seeking from her ex, Linda has requested spousal support while asking that the court waive Greg’s right to request support from her.
E! News has reached out to reps for comment but has not heard back.
The judge has a decades-spanning career on TV, first on his show Judge Mathis, which aired from 1999 to 2023 and then on the spin-off, Mathis Court With Judge Mathis, which premiered in fall 2023. The 61-year-old also appeared with Linda and their four kids—daughters Jade, 39, and Camara, 36, as well as sons Greg Jr., 35, and Amir, 34—on the E! reality series Mathis Family Matters in 2022.
Greg and Linda tied the knot in 1985 after meeting at Eastern Michigan University and dating for four years. The TV personality credited his wife’s early support with establishing his career during a 2022 episode of Mathis Family Matters.
“It was really my family that was the foundation of my success,” he said on the E! show at the time. “After coming out of the streets in Detroit, Linda allowed me to work 15 hours a day, five, six days a week. So it’s that support that allowed me to pursue the success that you see.”
At the time, Linda agreed, saying, “Our love and support runs deep. That’s how the Mathis family rolls.”
Despite the filing, the exes have spent a lot of time together this past year. Back in June, Linda shared photos and videos of a family gathering with Greg in honor of Father’s Day.
“Had such a beautiful time celebrating Father’s Day with my family and friends at the Johnson residence yesterday,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “Very uplifting to see all the Father’s being celebrated, especially my husband Greg and son-in-law Ryan.”
