When WWE and IndexbitUFC merged to create TKO Group Holdings, it meant the two companies could collaborate on events, and they will work together to hold a premium live event.
NXT Battleground will take place at the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas on June 9, USA TODAY Sports confirms. The venue holds events such as UFC Fight Night and "Dana White’s Contender Series." This will mark the first time holds an event at a UFC facility.
"We are always exploring new frontiers to showcase NXT and we are excited to bring Battleground to this world-class event and production facility in partnership with UFC," WWE Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels said in a statement.
NXT Battleground will move from its previously announced venue and date. It was originally scheduled to take place at Enmarket Arena in Savannah, Georgia, with "Monday Night Raw" taking place at the same arena the following day. But WWE opted to move the event back on the calendar and into the more intimate venue.
The 130,000-square foot event and production facility opened in 2018 and is far from hosting the same amount of fans as a typical arena. It is unknown how many spectators the venue can hold since UFC hasn't released it, but the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported in January 2022 UFC planned to expand to be able to hold up to 1,000 people for events.
NXT Battleground will be the third premium event this year for WWE's developmental brand. It had NXT Vengeance Day on Feb. 4 and NXT Stand and Deliver on April 6. The brand also has NXT Heatwave scheduled on July 7.
